Dear Parents,
It's been 5 years since the founding of our school. Together, as a
community, we have experienced ups and
downs, disagreements and constructive debates. The growing pain has helped
us become wiser, and stronger. Our growing joy has enabled us to move
forward with renewed energy and hope. Today, after 5 years of dedicated hard
work, we, as a growing community, have
more established systems to follow and more experienced and devoted
volunteers to rely on. Many of our students have not only acquired Chinese
language skills here, but also have a much better understanding
of our history, traditions and values by growing up in our school community.
This tremendous accomplishment is worth celebrating in a grand way. We'll
take this opportunity to pay tributes to the inspiring vision and courage of
our founding parents, to thank each and every one of the members of our
school for their faith and trust in a young educational organization with
their most precious asset, their children, and to appreciate all the
volunteers who have devoted countless hours to help build a great school one
task at a time.
The preparation of this event has already begun since early October. We have
parents and students preparing for a skit (Xiao Pin), a "three sentence and
half" and a "stand up duet comedy", as well as singing and dancing
performances. We are also going to hire well-established singers and
performers to help elevate the level of the performance.
Besides the evening show, we will also have many activities in the afternoon
for people of all ages on December 15th.
To finance this bigger and better than ever event, instead of tapping into
our precious tuition-based operation funds, we are going to rally our entire
community to raise funds for it.
Here is a plan we would like to suggest for the fund raising project:
We will distribute 500-600 program brochures on that day. The size of the
brochures will be 8"x5.5". We are going to invite business establishments
big and small to sponsor our event by putting their ads on this broucher, as
well as on our school web site and newsletter. Please mention this
opportunity to your hair salon, your realtor, your children's after school
programs, your dental office, the restaurants you frequent, and your other
service providers. If you have any sponsors in mind, please contact Bu
QinMei & me. We have some sample brochures for you to help the sponsors
visualize the ad. She'll give you the pricing information and also share
some past experiences with you. By doing so, you are not only helping our
school to raise funds for a great event; you are also helping your service
providers to reach out to a group of over 600 Chinese customers with great
consumtion powers.
The cut off date for the sponsorship is 11/17. Please take action asap.
If your family could help the event by making financial contributions
directly, please contact us. The tax year 2007 is close to its end. If you
still have some room to make a pretax contribution, please consider our
school. Some companies provide matching funds to their employees for their
contributions to non-profit organizations. If you haven't maxed out this
option yet this year, again, please consider our school.
Together, let's make this celebration the greatest event ever! Let's show
our kids, Chinese people know how to party too!

Dear Parents,
This Saturday, our Senior Friends Club is inviting Prof. Fang to give a
talk on vision care for seniors. If your mom and dad are interested in
this topic, please invite them to this seminar.
Professor Fang is retired from Nanjing Medical School. She was in
charge of the ophthalmology department.
The location and schedule of the talk is as following:
Time: 3rd & 4th period (10:45am - 12:20pm)Place: Room 19 (on 1st floor)
Next Saturday, we are going to have a group discussion on comparing HSK,
SAT II Chinese and AP Chinese as well as how parents can effectively
assist the
teachers to help the students learn Chinese.
We are very honored to have the opportunity to invite two of our
school's highly respected and experienced teachers, Li Ping and Yang
JunXia, to share their research results and working knowledge about the
above mentioned Chinese tests, and their successful experiences both as
a teacher and as a parent on the specific tactics to guide the students
with their Chinese learning experiences.
They each will give a brief talk, then they'll be happy to answer
parents' questions concerning these two topics.
As a parent, I brought my children to our Chinese school so they can
understand what dose it mean to be a Chinese, appreciate our rich,
resilient, and influential civilization, and be proud as a part of the
global Chinese community. To acquire the Chinese language skills is only
a part of the experience, yet these skills will greatly enhance their
ability to understand and appreciate our culture and history.
My fellow parents, let's not miss this opportunity to learn from the
experts. Let's raise the type of children that will truly make us proud.
Location: Room 19
Time: Sat. 10/27, 4th period (11:35am - 12:20pm)
The Chinese TV/Movie program will continue this Sat. in Room 105. The
program was made possible by our volunteer parents: Lin Qin, Zhuang Qin,
Huang Juanjuan, and Tan JianYou. We thank you so much for being great
role models for our children!

Dear Parents,
Last Saturday's test run of the Chinese TV/Movie program was well received
by our students. Even though we experienced some technical difficulties at
the beginning, with many parents' support, eventually our students had a
wonderful time watching the two TV series. This Saturday, we will continue
the program with the same schedule:
2nd period: "Big headed son and small headed dad"
3rd period: "There is a son and a daughter in the household" (Jia You Er Nu)
Both programs are provided by Wan Yin and Xiao DongGuang family. We are very
grateful to their contributions. Several other families contributed to this
program too. Their help is highly appreciated.
These two TV series are light comedies with great educational values. I have
heard many Chinese kids, both boys and girls, watched these two TV series
again and again. They are truly a lot of fun.
The TV/Movie room is 105. If you need help to find it, please come to PTA
desk for directions.
Best regards,
Yi Hao

Dear parents,
The periodic checks of the accounting activities help ensure the
financial transparency of our school, and that the federal, state and
local municipality's regulations are strictly followed.
We welcome parents with or without CPA licenses to form an auditing
team. The task of the team is to exam the financial activities in the
past school year. You don't have to have auditing experiences to make a
difference. It may take 2 - 3 meetings, totally 4 - 8 hours to complete
the review process. We also need a team leader to organize the meetings
and to put the report together.
If you are willing to contribute to our community in this way, please
contact me or register at our PTA desk on Saturdays.
Your contributions are sincerely appreciated.
Best regards,
Yi Hao

Dear Parents,
Last Saturday, 6 of our students and alumni from 7th
to 11th grade gave us a very informative talk on their
summer camp experiences. More than 30 parents and
students participated in the group discussion. As the
moderator of the panel, I found these young panelists
to be very enthusiastic, articulate, and funny. Their colorful and positive experiences will inspire many
younger students in our community to discover
themselves and strengthen their self confidence
through summer camps. The feedback from the audience
encourages us to run more of this kind of community
forums. This panel discussion was also a great
opportunity for our panelists to develop and improve
their public speaking skills. I would like to once
again thank our panelists for their valuable
contributions. The 6 panelists are:
Wendy Lin 11th grade
Ashley Feng 9th grade
Joy Ming 9th grade
Ed Xiao 8th grade
Stephanie Chen 7th grade
Roger Lee 7th grade
This Satuarday, we'll start a test run of our Chinese
TV/movie program for the students. The details are:
Location: Room 105 (in the Elementary School
section)
Schedule: 2nd period "Big headed son and small
headed dad"
3rd period "There is a son and a
daughter in the household" (Jia You Er Nu)
If you don't know where room 105 is, please ask the
volunteers at the PTA desk. Please give us some
feedback about this program.
School started 3 weeks ago. At this point, you have
some understanding about the teaching style of your
kids' teachers. We would like to encourage you to
communicate with the teachers on a regular basis. Our
teachers do welcome suggestions and feedback from the
parents.
I have attached the updated Class Parents List once
again. Please give me more corrections and updates.
So far, there are 17 moms signed up to be our
substitute teachers. The 1st training session will
start on 10/14. We really appreciate these parents'
support. Our school's quality of teaching will be
further improved with their active involvement.
Enjoy the beautiful weather!

Dear Parents,
Last Saturday, another 22 parents and students signed up to volunteer for
our school. We also saw 8 parents
help perform various volunteering duties such as: ringing the bell for the
classes, selling moon cakes,
checking the parking lot, and hosting the PTA information desk. We
wholeheartedly applaud these
individuals' contributions to our Chinese community. The quality of our
children's education depends on
these volunteers' dedication.
Starting next Saturday, we'll have a Chinese TV/movie program for our
students. During the 1st and 2nd
periods, we'll show a Chinese cartoon to the children in 3rd grade and
below. During the 3rd and 4th
periods, we'll have a Chinese TV series suitable for students in 3rd grade
and above. We want our students
to have more fun at Chinese school, and have more exposure to the Chinese
language, culture, and history. If you have some great Chinese DVDs that can
be shared with our students, please let me know. We would really appreciate
it. We also need a lot more
volunteers to help run this program. Please email me or come to our PTA desk
to sign up.
Attached is our updated class parent list. The parents who didn't indicate
which class they are covering
should email me. Besides providing help based on the teachers' requests,
we'll need class parents to coordinate class gifts for teachers, and to
inform the families which are not accessible through email with
certain important school announcements.
Last Saturday, one of our 4th graders, Zhong ZeEn, found $2 in a classroom.
He handed in at the PTA desk. The person who lost the money please come to
the PTA desk to get it back. We applaud Zhong ZeEn's honesty. We hope
everyone of our students understand
that no good deed is too small.
At this point, I have directly and indirectly heard 3 parents express their
interest in the Chinese video
rental program. If some of our parents are willing to run the program,
please contact me. We can continue this program as a self sustained club.
Thank you for your support!

Dear Parents,
Happy Mid-autumn Festival!
Some of you might be wondering, "Aren't we barely into fall? Why is she
bringing up summer camp now?" The
experienced parents will tell you that the most selective camps require a
qualification test. The students should start the application process as
early as October, so that he/she can take the test before January. The
earlier applicants will have better
chance of placement in their preferred course(s).
This Saturday we'll have 5 student panelists share their exciting summer
camp experiences with fellow students and the parents. They range from 7th
to 10th graders. Please see the attachment for more infomation about them
and the camps they attended this
past summer.
Most of the panelists are veteran campers. Those camp experiences helped
them develop friendship, discover
their academic interests, improve their intellectual strengths, increase
their self confidence as well as
independence. These positive and meaningful camp experiences during their
most impressionable years
make a significant impact in their social, intellectual and mental growth.
I urge our students as well as parents not to miss this precious opportunity
to hear directly from the horse's mouth. It just may make a difference in
you or your children's life.
Time: 10:45am - noon
Location: Room 110
See you there!

Dear Parents,
During the 1st week of school, more than 50 parents and students signed up
to help our school in a variety of different ways. I am deeply touched by
the enthusiasm of these individuals. It strengthened my believe that our
Chinese school will become stronger and better!
Attached please find our Class Parent List. There are 23 parents on the
list, yet we could use a lot more help. Our goal is to have 2 class parents
for each class. That way, duties can be shared, no parents will feel
overwhelmed, and teachers can get more reliable help.
click here to see the list
The parents who already signed up as class parents, please verify the
information. If you have any corrections and additional information, please
drop me an email.
Our teachers, if some parents signed up with you directly, please let me
know as well.
The parents who haven't had a chance to sign up as a volunteer yet, please
email me or come to our PTA desk on Sat mornings. If you can't commit to a
specific duty, just sign up to be a part of our volunteer pool. We'll call
you from time to time to ask for your help. Your family schedule will always
be respected. No time is too short. No help is too small. Let's all
contribute to our children's education, and at the same time, make new
friends, be a well informed parent.
Thank you very much. See you at school.
